Wildlife Information

Wildlife in Our Town

For most wildlife, we recommend that homeowners contact a wildlife rescue service that will pick-up (for a fee), and release the animal.

Skunks

You might have noticed an increase in the skunk population in our community. Please use the following tips to help discourage skunks from coming into your yard or property:

  • Keep your yard clear of trash and keep your garbage cans locked, secured, or stored in the garage if you have that option.
  • DO NOT leave cat food outside and accessible.
  • DO NOT leave bird seed outside and accessible.
  • DO NOT water your lawn frequently. Watering the lawn makes all of the bugs and grubs that skunks eat more accessible to them, which will attract them to your yard.
  • If you are having issues with skunks in your yard or digging holes, try soaking a rag in "Pine-Sol" or ammonia, place the soaked rags into the holes the skunks have burrowed in your yard. Skunks do not like these smells and will likely move on from the area.

Food and shelter are the two primary necessities for all wildlife. To prevent unwanted visitors, please keep garage doors closed, your homes in good repair, and all refuse containers well secured.
