The Children's Depot

Our Children's Depot offers a variety of reading and listening materials for your child, from birth through the middle grades. Games, puppets, blocks, arts & crafts, and toys are also available to encourage learning and literacy through play for you and your family.

Children’s ebooks, digital audio books, non-fiction resources, and streaming video are available through the MCLS Overdrive catalog. All you need is a MCLS library card to access free digital content.

Story Times and Events

Story time is a fun way to support your child’s literacy development, inspire a love of reading, and meet other families from the area. Each story time and event is designed for a specific age group, but siblings of all ages and abilities are always welcome. Children under 5 years old must be accompanied by a caregiver at events. Children under the age of 12 should be supervised by a responsible caregiver when in the library. All programs are free of charge.

1000 Books Before Kindergarten Program

We are now running the 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten program! Register at East Rochester Public Library, and start reading. You can read books to your child, or have them read the books to you. Record books on a log sheet, and come in for a sticker at the 100, 200, 300 level and so on. When the child reaches 1,000 books, they will get a special prize and certificate of accomplishment! This is a wonderful way to prepare your child for school. Questions about the program can be directed to Matthew Hoople, Youth Services Librarian.

Sing, Talk, Read, Write, & Play

Your child's language and reading life begins at birth and begins with you, the caregiver! The East Rochester Public Library's children's area is designed to support families as you help your child get ready to read. Play with a variety of toys, games, blocks, and puzzles that encourages your family to sing, talk, read, write, and play together.

EAST ROCHESTER VOLUNTEER FIRE DEPARTMENT--125 YEARS OF SERVICE

EAST ROCHESTER VOLUNTEER FIRE DEPARTMENT--125 YEARS OF SERVICE Read more

On May 23, 1898, a group of businessmen from Despatch (as East Rochester was known until 1906) met at Branshaud’s Hall on East Commercial Street to set up the first fire department.  On May 29th, the first official meeting was held, and the Despatch Fire District was formed.  During subsequent meetings committees were formed to find estimates for needed equipment, as well as for property and a fire hall.  It was determined that $1800.00 was the amount needed to outfit this first department.  Equipment included:  one dozen rubber coats, boots, and helmets, a hose cart, an alarm bell, a ladder truck, and three chemical carts.  Needless to say, the first fire trucks were either pulled by horses or pulled by hand.
