East Rochester was originally called Despatch because of its proximity to the railroad. The word came from the name of the first major company to locate here...

One aspect that has been added to the enhancement of our parks, has been the commemorative bench program. Individuals, families, businesses, and/or any organizations may elect to sponsor a bench in the park of their choice. These hand-worked/cast steel benches are six feet long and seat three people comfortably. They are extremely durable for all seasons and have a dark green finish to them. Each bench is affixed with a plaques denoting the sponsor and the date of its installation. To date, the East Rochester residents have graciously donated fourteen benches to our parks.

These benches are both great-looking and functional and reflect the Town/Village pride in our parks. As of March 2021, the cost of sponsoring a bench is $1,450.

This includes the following:

  • Six-foot, hand-worked/cast steel bench with urethane/powder coat finish
  • Delivery from out-of-state
  • Assembly by Parks Committee
  • Commemorative Plaque
  • Installation in park of sponsor's choice

Should you or your business be interested in sponsoring a bench, you can contact Mark McDermott, Chairperson, East Rochester Parks Committee, (585) 586-7756. Please feel free to contact Mark directly with any questions or concerns you may have.
