East Rochester/Fairport Little Brown Jug Reunion Set for July 24, 2014

One of the greatest high school football rivalries in western New York is being remembered and celebrated this summer in East Rochester, on the 75th anniversary of the year it began.

Fans and participants in the Little Brown Jug series, an arch rivalry game between East Rochester and Fairport high schools that was played from 1939 to 1987, are invited to a commemorative reunion to be held Thursday evening, July 24. It will be part of opening night at the annual East Rochester Fire Department Carnival.

Reunion committee chairman Sam Morgante of East Rochester said plans will include guest appearances by coaches Don Quinn (ER), Don Santini (Fairport) and Pete Logan (Fairport), players from many of the teams during the series' 49 years, as well as memorabilia, multimedia displays and videos. The two Brown Jugs that have been on display in each high school's trophy case since the series concluded 27 years ago will be shown for the first time in public side-by-side. The reunion will be held in the carnival's main tent on the high school athletic field, 222 Woodbine Avenue. Activities will begin at 6:30 p.m. and will run until approximately 11. All Fairport and East Rochester alumni and other interested fans and community residents are welcome to attend. There is no charge, and parking is free. Food and beverages will be available from carnival vendors and music will be provided from 7-11.
